The Transformation Fundamentals is a comprehensive E-learning journey designed to help you examine critical skills needed for the UN to transform. It consists of two distinct courses:

UN 2.0: Your First Step | 1 Module | 1 hour | Certificate of Completion

A primer that orients you to the transformation vision. This module introduces you to the Quintet of Change through small actionable steps, and real case studies to ground you in the cultural shift required to modernize how the UN works.

UN 2.0 Fundamentals E-Learning Path | 5 Modules | 4 hours each | Certificate of Achievement

Five in-depth modules, each covering one skill in the Quintet, namely: Strategic Foresight, Behavioral Science, Data, Digital, and Innovation. You will find expert videos, case studies, practical tools, frameworks, and scenario-based learning that puts concepts into real situations.

How to approach these courses:

  • If UN transformation is new to you or you have time constraints: Start with UN 2.0 Your First Step. It provides essential context and connects you to specific Fundamentals modules based on your interests.

Upon successful completion of the learning path, you will be able to:

  • Identify the cultural shift associated with the mainstreaming of current UN transformation.
  • Define skills such as Data, Innovation, Digital, Foresight, and Behavioral Science.
  • Recognise how colleagues across the UN are already putting them into practice.
  • Examine how to apply tools from each skill at different points in your projects.
Course methodology

This learning path follows learner-centered design and scenario-based learning. It is a self-paced delivered entirely online.

Course contents

UN 2.0: Your First Step | 1 Module | 1 hour | Certificate of Completion

Transformation begins with a question: how do we change the way we work so we can meet a world that is changing around us?

This module introduces the Quintet of Change and its forward-looking culture as a practical way to begin: with more awareness, more imagination, and more courage to act.

UN 2.0 Fundamentals E-Learning Path | 5 Modules | 4 hours each | Certificate of Achievement

You do not need to complete the modules in a fixed order. Please feel free to start with the skill that feels most relevant to your work and move through the others in order that best supports your learning.

The five modules are:

1.Strategic Foresight Fundamentals

The future rarely arrives as a clean continuation of the past. This module equips you with use cases and tools for making sense of change, imagining possible futures, and taking action – showcasing application from across the UN System.

2.Behavioural Science Fundamentals

People do not make decisions in isolation.

This module helps you understand the contexts, habits, and biases that shape behaviour, so we can start designing interventions that fits goes with the grain of human nature.

3.Data Science

Data helps us listen more closely to what is happening beneath the surface.

Through tools and use cases, this module helps you ask better questions, see patterns more clearly, and use evidence to decide with more care.

4.Digital Fundamentals

Digital transformation only works when it works for people. This module helps you understand what technology can make possible, where it can create friction, and how to design digital solutions around real needs.

5.Introduction to Innovation

At the UNSSC, we believe innovation is a skill that can be learned, and improved. In this module you will explore the definition of innovation within the UN context, identify various types of innovation, and reflecting on how to apply these concepts in your specific work environment.

Target audience

The UN 2.0 Fundamentals E-Learning Path is open to UN personnel, at all levels, who are curious to explore and make sense of the Quintet of Change.
