Capacity Building Workshop: Climate Policy and Finance for Sustaining Peace and Security

Africa Climate, Peace and Security Knowledge and Practice Sharing Series, September 2025

Held in Cairo from 24–26 September 2025, this first edition of the Africa Climate, Peace and Security Knowledge and Practice Sharing Series brought together representatives from 16 African Union (AU) Member States and partners including the African Union Commission (AUC), the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Climate Security Mechanism (CSM), the UN System Staff College (UNSSC), the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), and the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The workshop marked a major step toward integrating climate, peace and security priorities into policy and finance frameworks, supporting Member States in developing conflict-sensitive climate-finance proposals. Participants exchanged experience, refined project concepts and identified follow-up actions, from national consultations and GCF proposals. The workshop laid the groundwork for a growing African network translating analysis into peace-positive climate action, building on the momentum ahead of COP30 in Belém.
