The United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) is set to commemorate its rich 20-year history of success in delivering quality learning solutions to support UN System mandates. February 2022, marks the 20th anniversary of the College which was officially established in 2002, with a vision is to contribute to a more effective, results-oriented and agile United Nations through learning, training and knowledge dissemination

In 2002, a group of 20 UN Staff members from different UN agencies started their learning journeys by attending a three-day workshop on "Capacity Development for UN Field Coordination". By the end of that year UNSSC had trained 1,500 UN staff members.

“For some 2002 was just another year. For us, this was the year that our College came to life.  It was a  newly born organization, the rationale for which had been originally discussed in 1969: to meet the needs of the UN family of organizations and agencies. Since its establishment in 2002, the College has made significant strides by supporting the UN System to deliver on development interventions, advance peace and security and support UN management reform” said UNSSC Director Jafar Javan.

Today, the United Nations System Staff College is a leading inter-agency learning institution which offers an array of learning and knowledge exchange opportunities to over 20,000 beneficiates from UN entities and partner organizations across the globe.

To showcase its transformative journey, UNSSC is setting the tone for the next 20 years with a four-month campaign to celebrate the achievements that have helped shape the organization into what it is today. In honour of the historic anniversary, UNSSC has put together a collection of videos to capture the voices of partners and alumni who have thrived and benefited in part due to the opportunities and initiatives provided by the Staff College. Along with videos, UNSSC will look back at some of the College’s significant milestone achievements, and hear from former directors who have contributed to the College’s journey.

An interactive 20-year anniversary page has been developed to allow all to learn more about how UNSSC has supported UN System through innovative and impactful learning and training opportunities. The celebration will continue into the summer, and the page will be updated to reflect future events and articles. The milestones, videos, and articles will also be shared on UNSSC’s social media channels throughout the campaign under the #UNSSCAT20 hashtag.

"Anniversaries are a time for reflection and gratitude, and as an organization we are grateful for the continuing support, and trust of our stakeholders. We want to reward this support by forging ahead with foresight for another 20 years of learning excellence”, said UNSSC Director Jafar Javan.
