Milana Rikanovic

Ms. Milana Rikanovic holds the position of the Programme Management Specialist and the Head of UN Women Office in Serbia. 

Ms. Rikanovic has professional experience with international organizations in the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, including UN organizations, the World Bank and EU initiatives, where she has been leading diverse, complex and multi-sector programmes. Ms Rikanovic leads the initiatives on gender mainstreaming of EU accessions and negotiation chapters and has contributed to gender sensitive sectoral strategies and budgets.  

Ms. Rikanovic is engaged on the initiatives on gender and just energy transition, gender and climate change and gender in the urban planning and transport sectors. As a part of the gender responsive governance, UN Women Serbia tested policy initiatives on gender and just transition, focusing on gender aspects of energy poverty and developed the first Gender Sensitive PM Inventory. Under her leadership, UN Women conducted the analysis of household waste management from the gender perspective resulting in numerous community-based initiatives. Mr Rikanovic participated in development of the methodology on gender and climate financing, analysing the intersectionality of climate investment, including the set of gender and climate indicators and data. Finally, the sectoral approach provided the insights on the use of public spaces by men and women and the Guide to urban planners for gender sensitive urban spaces.
