Markus Jens Block
Markus coordinates the work on procurement policies, standard bidding documents and guidelines for IFAD’s supervision of project procurement under the leadership of Priscilla Torres. This includes close engagement with stakeholders in the regional divisions and in project management units to ensure that innovations like end-to-end reporting system (OPEN) meet the needs of its end-users.
Markus joined the IFAD project procurement team at its founding in 2019 and has been part of the wide-ranging reform of project procurement that IFAD undertook since then. Before that he was working as a PhD Researcher at the European University Institute in Florence exploring factors that that lead to higher R&D investments and stronger innovative capabilities among European and US firms. He holds a master’s degree in Economic and Social History from the University of Cambridge and a bachelor's degree in philosophy & Economics from the University of Bayreuth.
