Jon-Hans Coetzer
Dr. Jon-Hans Coetzer is a senior higher education specialist with more than 25 years of international experience in instructional design, programme management, academic leadership and quality assurance. His work focuses on strengthening institutional effectiveness and advancing learner-centred, practice-informed approaches within diverse higher education environments.
From 2010 to 2015, he served as Project Coordinator for Strategic Crisis Management Training for the Swiss Federal Presidency in Bern. Earlier, as a senior delegate with the International Committee of the Red Cross (1995–2002), he trained armed forces in the Law of War, the Geneva Conventions, and Additional Protocols across more than fifteen conflict-affected countries.
Dr. Coetzer currently serves as Team Leader at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), where he leads global partnerships with universities and higher education institutions. His work supports inclusive pedagogy, digital andragogy, conflict and peace studies, and sustainable development.
His research interests include cross-cultural leadership in international classrooms, transformational learning and inclusive pedagogical practices aligned with the UN 2030 Agenda. He continues to publish and speak at international forums and led the planning of UNITAR’s first International Research Conference, held at the UN Bonn Campus in November 2023 on climate security and its implications for peace and security.
