Gain practical working experience in your field of studies with the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC)!
During the year, we offer a limited number of internship opportunities for graduate students from around the world through our Internship Programme. Vacancies for internships are regularly posted under the employment page of the UNSSC website.


What's the purpose?

The objective of the UNSSC Internship Programme is threefold:

  • To complement the educational experience of graduate students and recent graduates through practical work assignments;
  • To expose them to the work of the UNSSC, and
  • To provide the UNSSC with the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.


For how long?

The duration of the internship assignment at the Staff College is from three to six months.


Is it for me?

To be considered for the UNSSC Internship Programme, you must meet one of the following conditions:

  • Are enrolled in a Master's or in a Ph.D. programme; or
  • Are enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s programme; or
  • Are within one year after graduation from a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. programme.
  • Applicants must also be fully proficient in English; working knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.


What we offer

You will become part of a friendly, multilingual and multicultural team of people; you will gain practical experience in a number of areas related to learning, training and knowledge management; you will be exposed to the working reality of an international organization.

Last but not least, you will receive a stipend of 450Euro a month from the Staff College, to help you cover basic subsistence costs.

Important things you should know

Before accepting an internship offer, please bear in mind that you are responsible for making your own travel and accommodation arrangements and for obtaining the necessary visa for entering Italy or the country of any other duty station to which you have been assigned. We will facilitate the process of obtaining entry visas for countries of assignment.

You must also have all the prescribed vaccinations for travel to the assigned duty station and must obtain medical insurance coverage in accordance with the requirements for entering Italy or the country of assignment. The cost of travel, visa, accommodation, vaccines, health insurance and living expenses are your responsibility.
