The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Saudi Arabia, and the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) have announced a new partnership aimed at providing a new capacity-building framework for UNDP staff and their national partners.

Under the partnership, the Staff College will collaborate with UNDP Saudi Arabia to design, create and deliver joint learning, training, and capacity development initiatives in the areas of sustainable development.

With less than a decade left to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),  UNSSC and UNDP Saudi Arabia aim to work together to build a common understanding of national priorities, set national plans, identify new actors and partners, and localize the SDGs through contextualized policies and action on the ground.

“We are grateful for UNSSC’s commitment to empowering UN staff at country level in boosting their capacity to support the government in scaling solutions and sustaining action through continuous learning and capacity building. UNSSC’s support through joint learning and joint training can help us achieve our roadmap towards 2030”, said Dr. Adam Charles Bouloukos, UNDP Resident Representative for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Both organizations see the partnership as an exciting opportunity to support communities of practice on SDGs. Through  joint learning products,  knowledge dissemination , and the sharing of expertise on different sustainable development themes, UNSSC and UNDP Saudi Arabia  will drive a collaborative approach to build skills that can support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The partnership is expected  to catalyze action  in three key areas, the empowerment of UNDP staff through capacity building initiatives that are aimed at  strengthening the quality of UN support that is provided to the government ; the promotion of an inclusive dialogue with national partners to support their efforts to achieve the SDGs ; and the fostering  of communities of practice to build enabling environments for SDG champions.
