Pelle Enarsson
Pelle Enarsson is a Swedish diplomat, now Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of South Sudan. Previously, he joined the United Nations Foundation in 2021 to support the Secretary-General’s work on developing Our Common Agenda. His efforts focused on building political coalitions, empowering young changemakers, and connecting the agenda to the Sustainable Development Goals and other existing UN frameworks.
Before moving to New York and joining the United Nations Foundation, Per Enarsson served as the Deputy Director-General and Head of Department for Conflict and Humanitarian Affairs, Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm. He was Sweden’s ambassador to Eritrea between 2015-2018.
Per Enarsson has extensive experience from multilateral affairs, representing Sweden in UN negotiations on the environment, sustainable development, humanitarian assistance, and peacebuilding. He served at the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations in New York between 2002-2007 and was responsible for the World Bank and the African Development Bank at the Ministry between 1999-2002. He was also seconded to and worked at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi in the Unit for Global Environment Facility for a year in 1997-1998.
He has also been working with many conflict settings, ranging from Afghanistan to Georgia and European Security and the Horn of Africa, where he served as Chief of Cabinet for the EU Special Representative.
Per Enarsson holds a master’s in business administration from the Stockholm School of Economics.
