Oliver Waissbein
Oliver Waissbein is global head of energy programming at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), supporting governments to achieve their sustainable energy objectives. UNDP currently has a global portfolio of over 130 active energy projects, in approximately 100 countries, and totaling over USD 600 million in grant financing and USD 3 billion in co-financing.
Oliver is a strong advocate for engaging with private finance as key to advancing environmental and development goals. He has led the development of UNDP’s ‘Derisking Renewable Energy Investment (DREI)’ initiative– an innovative framework to channel low-cost, commercial capital to sustainable energy investment. Oliver also publishes regularly on energy finance in academic journals.
Prior to joining UNDP, Oliver was at the investment bank Goldman Sachs, working in M&A and corporate finance. Oliver holds degrees from Oxford University and Columbia University, New York.
