Miriam Medel García
Ms. Miriam Medel García is a Mexican diplomat with more than 20 years of experience in international relations, multilateral diplomacy and sustainable development. Since 2025, she has served as the Head of the Environment Team at the Permanent Mission of Mexico in Geneva.
Before assuming her current role, she was the Chief of External Relations, Policy and Advocacy at the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
Prior to joining the UNCCD Secretariat in 2020, she served at the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary. Earlier in her career, she held the position of Political Attaché of Mexico to Germany and has served in various diplomatic and negotiation roles for the Government of Mexico, where she developed successful bilateral and multilateral partnerships to advance sustainability at the highest international levels.
Ms. Medel García holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Carleton University in Canada and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
