Michael Johnstone
Dr. Michael Johnstone is Co Founder and Executive Director of Vantage Point Consulting, an Australian firm specializing in individual, organizational and leadership development. Based in Australia and Italy, he works internationally with senior executives, leadership teams and public sector leaders to strengthen alignment between leadership, people, strategy and purpose.
Michael consults to business, government and non-profit organizations across Australia, Asia, Europe and the United States. His work includes leadership development for senior public servants, specialist programmes for global organisations, and executive coaching for CEOs and top teams. He also has a strong interest in mentoring and building the capability of experienced consultants and leadership development practitioners.
He has held faculty roles at leading institutions, including Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, the Australia and New Zealand School of Government, and the University of New South Wales (Canberra). Michael is currently a lead faculty member of the Australian Adaptive Leadership Institute and serves on the Faculty Advisory Group of the Adaptive Leadership Network in the United States. He is a frequent contributor to leadership forums and conferences.
Michael’s educational and professional background spans youth work, family therapy, local government, tertiary teaching, research and community development, and urban planning. He has held executive roles, worked as a researcher and therapist, and supported organizations through complex change. He holds a BA from the University of Auckland, an M.Soc.Sci. (cum laude) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a PhD from the Australian National University. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and a Chartered Management Consultant.
