Melani Cammett is Clarence Dillon Professor of International Affairs in the Department of Government and Director of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University and is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her research explores ethnic politics, conflict and development in the Middle East and other contexts. Her current book project, Extraordinary Violence, Ordinary Life: Politics and the Social Rules of Peace, focuses on how people live together after violence and is based on original research in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Lebanon and Northern Ireland.
Cammett has also published award-winning books and edited volumes on politics and development in the Middle East and other developing regions and numerous articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and policy outlets, consults for development policy organizations, has received various fellowships and awards, currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Beirut and of the Board of Governors of the Watson School for International and Public Affairs at Brown University, and is a Lifetime Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.A. from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, and a B.A. from Brown University.
