Martin Visbeck

<p>Martin Visbeck is the Head of Research Unit, Physical Oceanography at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and a professor at Kiel University in Germany. As a speaker of the Kiel Cluster of Excellence “Future Ocean”, he is involved in integrated marine science, bringing together different disciplines to work on marine issues. His research interests revolve around ocean and climate dynamics, sustained ocean observing, and ocean sustainable development. Martin is the Chairman of the German Committee Future Earth and Co-Chair of the German “Science Platform Sustainability 2030”. He is a member of the Scientific Leadership Council of Sustainable Development Solutions Network and the Development Team of Future Earth Knowledge Action Network on Ocean. Through his active participation in several national and international advisory committees, Martin Visbeck is involved in strategic planning and decision-making processes about the ocean and sustainable development at a national, European, and global level.</p>
