Ghita El Khyari
Ghita El Khyari is a former United Nations (UN) diplomat. She previously served as Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the United Nations System-Wide Gender Equality Acceleration Plan, hosted by UN Women, where she contributed to advancing gender equality commitments across the UN system.
Before, she launched the We the Women campaign as a Senior Programme Consultant with the UN Office for Partnerships. From 2016 to 2023, she led the Secretariat of the UN Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), a multi-partner trust fund supporting local women’s organizations in crisis and humanitarian settings. Prior, she served as Deputy Representative of UN Women in Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria.
Ghita also held several senior roles within the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, including Advisor to the Minister and Chief of Staff to the Secretary-General. Earlier in her career, she worked with the Terrorism Prevention Branch of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna and with the Regional Council of Île-de-France in Paris.
A Moroccan national, she holds two Master’s degrees in International Relations and Economic History.
