Arif Hussain
Arif Hussain is an Associate Learning Officer at the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC), which he joined in 2019. His work focuses on the design and delivery of safety and security training programmes for the United Nations (UN) system. In addition to his work within the security portfolio, he has developed learning programmes on UN counter-terrorism frameworks and the Sustaining Peace agenda, and has led high-level workshops on freedom of expression, access to information, and the safety of journalists for UN Regional Directors and Resident Coordinators in Latin America, South East Asia and Africa.
Prior to transitioning to training at UNSSC, he worked as a humanitarian professional in the Middle East, leading emergency humanitarian interventions in support of internally displaced persons and refugees from the Horn of Africa. Having worked in complex and resource-constrained environments, he draws directly on these experiences when designing learning programmes, grounding simulations, scenarios and case studies in the lived realities of UN colleagues operating in high-risk settings.
He studied International Relations and Business Administration, bringing together perspectives from global affairs and organizational management. He is a Qualified Driver Trainer, and holds a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training. He is passionate about the environment and, when not delivering training programmes, can often be found planting trees.
