In the Decade of Action to Deliver the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UN Volunteers are needed for peace and development worldwide. From implementing projects to championing change and inspiring others, UN Volunteers fulfil a critical role.

In order respond to the request from Member States to promote broader ownership of sustainable development through volunteerism, the UN System Staff College and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme developed the UNV Primer, an online learning offering that unpacks UN Volunteers for Resident Coordinators (RCs), their offices (RCOs), and the UN system as a whole.

UNSSC and UNV developed this learning offering to ensure that volunteerism is better understood and applied by Resident Coordinator Offices as well as UN staff across the system.

Available on the Blue Line, a UNSSC online platform for self-directed learning, the UNV Primer aims at supporting RCs and RCOs to encourage the mobilization of UN Volunteers through different UN entities, in order to strengthen efforts at national level toward peace and sustainable development.

The event will examine the key features of the UNV Primer:

  • Case studies about UN Volunteers implementing the SDGs;
  • Guidance for engaging them quickly;
  • Examples of how to integrate their contributions into country programming.
