Introduction

Our why

As the United Nations (UN) system evolves to meet complex global challenges, effective learning and capacity-building remain essential for driving impact across mandates. In a context where travel and training budgets are under pressure, it is more important than ever that training activities and methodologies are robust, adaptive and evidence-based. This ensures that capacity development efforts can continue sustainably, even amid resource constraints.

Building skills for effective training delivery

At UNSSC, we support UN personnel and partners in designing learning that is practical, relevant and empowering. We offer training on core trainer competencies — covering learning needs analysis, course design, delivery and evaluation, as well as the effective use of digital tools, online facilitation and AI in learning.

Our training of trainers (ToT) programmes equip participants with tools for learner-centred design, delivery and evaluation. They can be customized to focus exclusively on training methodologies or integrate thematic areas where capacity development plays a key role, such as Youth, Peace and Security (YPS), Women, Peace and Security (WPS), and Conflict Sensitivity.

Delivering Engaging Live Virtual Training for UNESCWA

Delivered entirely online over five weeks, this interactive course equips personnel with the skills and techniques to create dynamic, participatory virtual learning experiences. In a past edition for 20 United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) staff, by applying practical tools and collaborative methods, participants learned how to transform live online sessions into engaging, learner-driven environments that foster interaction, creativity and lasting impact.

Technology and AI-Driven Learning for ITS/DPET/DPO

We deliver customized training that builds capacity to apply generative AI tools across all stages of the training cycle, using the ADDIE model. Through a four-day face-to-face workshop, 50 participants from the Integrated Training Service (ITS), within the Policy, Evaluation and Training Division (DPET) of the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) learned to design, develop and deliver AI-enhanced learning experiences that make peace operations training more efficient, innovative and results-driven. The workshop combined practical exercises and guided experimentation.

The From In-Classroom Training to E-Learning: a Hands-On Workshop was such a life saver! Immediately after the training ended, the skills that I gained from this training enabled me to quickly convert the content of my 5-day face-to-face training to an online one.[...] This really helped my organization, as I was able to provide all the planned training for the year and even host global training that would have cost a lot if all learners and facilitators had to travel and meet at one central location.
