Introduction

Why leadership?

The 2030 Agenda and UN 2.0 initiative challenge the United Nations (UN) to transform the way it works, calling for system-wide reform to create a more agile, responsive and impactful organization. As the blueprint for the desired UN organizational culture, the UN System Leadership Framework, encourages all personnel – regardless of their level, duties or location – to exercise leadership. In alignment with the framework and our mandate, UNSSC contributes to shaping a common UN leadership culture through a distinctive learning offer aimed at developing more confident, capable and collaborative leaders across the system.

Promoting a common leadership culture across the UN

Through a unique combination of individual learning offerings, customized learning solutions and system-wide initiatives, we equip UN personnel – from young talents and junior professional officers (JPOs) to national professional officers (NPOs), administrative staff, mid-level managers and senior leaders in headquarters and country offices – with crucial skills to lead, be agents of change, drive progress, deliver sustainable development results and maximize synergies for greater impact in a complex global environment.

We are committed to promoting adaptive leadership, strengthening communication and negotiation abilities, supporting effective project and programme management, and empowering personnel to build and lead high-performing, diverse and multigenerational teams  Our programmes integrate the Quintet of Change and promote a renewed paradigm of leadership grounded in inclusivity, diversity and gender equality.

The UN Leaders Programme is the best leadership programme that I have attended in over 25 years in the United Nations. It is well adapted to our daily experience, and credit must be given to the diligent facilitators’ and the resource persons’ humility and knowledge. Thanks to the smooth and effective communication styles of the team and facilitators, I learned a lot from other experienced colleagues and was also able to bring my own experiences to bear. The DiSC assessment was outstanding, and I will forever cherish the balcony.
