This online panel discussion will explore the intersection of artificial intelligence, ethics, and the Women, Peace and Security agenda through the voices of experts in the fields of peacebuilding, technology, and gender equality:

  • Zahra’ Langhi, Senior Advisor, Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY)
  • Dr. Mona Nabil Demaidi, Vice President for Artificial Intelligence - Arab American University.
  • Nebahat Arslan, Group General Counsel at Goodnotes and Chief Partnership Officer and Counsel at Women in AI (WAI)

After 25 years since the adoption of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda, new and evolving conflict dynamics are demanding fresh thinking and innovation. The rise of AI, technology-facilitated gender-based violence, cyber threats, climate-driven crises, and digital exclusion is reshaping risks faced by women in conflict-affected settings. At the same time, there is potential for AI to help strengthen early warning systems, amplify women’s voices, support accountability, and facilitate more inclusive peace processes.

UNSSC, in partnership with the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY), seeks to convene scholars, practitioners, peacebuilders, technologists, policy-makers, civil society, and others to explore how we can ensure AI is ethical, inclusive, and leveraged to further WPS goals—but also how to guard against its risks: algorithmic bias, privacy violations, digital inequality, and exclusion of marginalized voices.
