Jood Wasel Alharthi
Jood Wasel Alharthi is currently working in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General with the Rule of Law Unit. Previously, she was a JPO in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. In her role she was most recently working in the Policy and Mediation Division, working on human rights and previously in the Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund working on Central Asia, South Asia and Europe. In addition, she co-chared the Peace & Security Pillar Anti-Racism Action Group and was a member in the Secretary-General’s Anti-Racism Task Force on Implicit Biases.
Prior to joining the UN, Jood was based in London working with a top-tier Human Rights law firm in the International Litigation Department supporting with War Crime cases.
Jood’s work had a focus on the Rule of Law, International Human Rights and Post-Conflict Alternative Dispute Resolution. Previously, Jood worked in international commercial law firms and was based at their corporate departments in London and Dubai. She’s also gained criminal and terrorism law experience at the California Central District Federal Court . She conducted research on environmental policies in MENA for the Economist Middle East Intelligence.
Since 2017, Jood has been supporting a team with Lawyers Without Borders, to develop storybooks for children in Tanzania to raise their awareness of Human Trafficking.
Jood is from Saudi Arabia. She studied Pre-Law with a focus on philosophy and politics at University College London, She obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Swansea University and a Master of Laws from SOAS, University of London.
