To achieve the 2030 Agenda, the international community must navigate a landscape shaped by multiple, interconnected crises – from the lasting impacts of COVID-19 and financial uncertainty to geopolitical tensions and rapid technological change. Responding effectively requires governance systems that are integrated, coherent and inclusive. At the same time, sustainable development can only be achieved when these efforts are firmly grounded in the respect, protection and promotion of human rights.
Our programmes equip diverse sustainable development actors, including UN personnel at headquarters and in country teams, government officials, civil society, the private sector and academia, with the skills to analyse and strengthen governance systems, design effective policy options and exercise political acumen to drive impact in complex, multi-stakeholder settings.
We also help participants deepen their understanding of human rights and apply the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). By linking governance with rights-based approaches, our courses ensure that development interventions translate into tangible, positive change especially for those most at risk of being left behind.
This four-week, interactive course is designed for senior UN leaders navigating today’s rapidly evolving global environment. It focuses on strengthening political astuteness and strategic negotiation skills to better read power dynamics, build coalitions and influence outcomes – all critical skills for governance, promoting partnerships, and advancing human rights in complex settings.
The UN Summer Academy provides a dynamic, connected and engaging forum for advancing sustainable development through fostering inclusive exchanges, inspiring action, and building enabling environments. The five-day virtual learning platform, supported by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, convenes exceptional groups of changemakers annually to address the global challenges that the UN system and its partners from multiple sectors and regions across the world are facing. The theme of the 2025 edition was Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development.
This online course seeks to promote awareness on the key role anti-corruption plays in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and facilitate knowledge and understanding of practical examples and key tools to enhance integration of anti-corruption in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) measurement and monitoring. The programme also introduces participants to the importance of aligning national sustainable development and anti-corruption strategies.
UN senior leaders encounter different challenges across various regions, which intricately reshape their needs in pursuing health-related SDGs. Our tailored learning solutions prepare and equip them with the skills and tools to address these challenges. Over two months in November and December 2023, we delivered the Global Health Diplomacy, Geostrategic Health, Leadership and Political Acumen Programme for WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (WHO-EMRO) senior leaders. The training included expert dialogues on the complexities of global health diplomacy, individual coaching sessions to develop practical influencing skills, and online modules on the essentials of health diplomacy in the Eastern Mediterranean region and the roles of regional bodies.
