UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) Learning Path

The UN’s Resident Coordinator system ensures the coordination of all organizations of the United Nations dealing with operational activities for development at the country level, regardless of the nature of their presence in the country. At country level, it encompasses the UN Resident Coordinator, the UN Country Team and Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO). And in January 2019, a reinvigorated UN Resident Coordinator (RC) system was rolled out, embodying the UN General Assembly’s vision to create a dedicated, independent, impartial and empowered development coordination function.

In response to this,  UNSSC rolled- out a six-month blended learning journey the RCO Learning Path in 2021, to facilitate an in-depth exploration of emerging sustainable development issues for RCO personnel. The offering was uniquely designed to reinforce professional competencies by building on the power of collaboration, coordination, co-creation and communication as core components of the skillsets required to upscale the impact - improving wellbeing, boosting prosperity for all while protecting the planet of the RCO.To date, 232 Participants have participated in live moderated webinars which feature inputs from renowned subject-matter experts and allow real-time dialogue with high-level speakers and other RCO staff. This learning journey offers opportunities for virtual networking and fosters peer to peer exchange and knowledge sharing with representation from across the world. The programme has offered an unparalleled opportunity for participants to acquire the latest information related to emerging sustainable development issues. Building on the success of the 2021 RCO Learning Path, UNSSC is considering a scaled up, systematic, integrated and further customized approach to offer continuous support to RCO staff.

Improved, integrated policy advice, increased programmatic results, more efficient and agile operations, and greater transparency and accountability, have been set as the benchmarks for the success of the rejuvenated system. Its overall success will be the impact for people, planet and prosperity through a renewed commitment to multilateralism in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. UNSSC stands ready to support this endeavor through engaging learning and training opportunities.
