UNSSC's Blue Line platform offers you the opportunity to develop critical leadership and managerial skills through an innovative, self-directed learning experience.
At the core of the Blue Line, is a continually expanding collection of leadership and management modules tailored for UN personnel. The curriculum covers key areas such as people management, strategic planning, programme implementation, and resource optimization. It also emphasizes leadership traits and practices outlined in the UN System Leadership Framework.

The programme is hosted on UNSSC’s Blue Line e-learning platform, a dynamic learning environment that fosters collaboration and shared knowledge. The Blue Line goes beyond traditional learning by empowering you to connect, grow, and lead within a vibrant community, equipping you with the skills and insights needed to drive the IOM’s mission forward.
Course methodology
The learning experience is structured around the following components:
- A micro-learning experience characterized by small knowledge units (modules and micro-lessons) where participants consolidate and reflect on learnings through the creation of micro-content (multimodal forum replies, blog posts, etc.).
- Scenario-based learning exposing participants to real-life challenges and tasks of UN managers.
- Consolidation of takeaways through reflective practices and social learning to facilitate information exchange and peer-to-peer learning.
Course contents
Through the corporate subscription, IOM personnel can enjoy unlimited access to all 80+ online modules available as part of the Extended E-Certificate. This includes:
- UNSSC Extended E-Certificate on Leadership and Management (eCLM). With 80+ curated modules on management, leadership, innovation, and evaluation, IOM colleagues can start learning anytime, selecting components that suit their needs and progressing at their own pace. The content, rooted in the UN System Leadership Framework, covers key areas like adaptive and transformational leadership, people and resource management, planning and programme implementation. New modules are also regularly available for sign-up.
- eCLM curated learning paths. Specialized learning paths made up of a set of pre-determined eCLM modules that focus on key thematic areas. The eCLM includes the following paths:
- E-Learning Curriculum for National Professional Officers;
- E-Learning Curriculum on Performance Management;
- E-Learning Curriculum on Leadership in the UN;
- E-Learning Curriculum on Resource Management.
New modules on leadership and management-related topics will be periodically released and made available to corporate subscribers and their personnel. The corporate subscription includes access to all free recourses in the Blue Line.
