Nerina Muzurovic and Alvaro Lario
Nerina Muzurovic
Nerina Muzurovic is a seasoned development professional with more than 11 years of wide-ranging experience in the UN/IFI context, and an additional more than 7 years of academic research and teaching experience. She has served in various capacities, and most recently as designated technical lead for knowledge management (KM) and grants coordination in the Sustainable Production, Markets and Institutions Division of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). This has also included support to ongoing initiatives and technology transfers focusing on inclusive innovations and rural development. In her current function within IFAD, she exercises critical oversight of analytical and policy content of flagship publications and policy briefs under the remit of the Strategy and Knowledge Department. Previously, as KM Regional Specialist and Grant Manager for the Near East, North Africa and Europe (NEN) region, she maintained close contacts with grant implementing partners (e.g. researchers, technical experts, policy analysts and partnership officers). She has worked very closely with country directors, and through them with various governments and ministries, including from donor countries (e.g. Germany, France, Finland, Japan, UK and USA) and IFAD’s partner countries, such as Algeria, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, Egypt, Georgia, Jordan, Moldova, Morocco, Montenegro, Romania, Turkey and Sudan.
Alvaro Lario
Alvaro Lario is President of the International Fund of Agricultural Development (IFAD). A seasoned international development finance leader, he has more than 20 years of experience across academia, private sector asset management, World Bank Group and the United Nations, including as Associate Vice-President of Financial Operations at IFAD.
Under his stewardship, IFAD became the first United Nations Fund to enter the capital markets and obtain a credit rating, enabling the IFAD to expand resource mobilization efforts to the private sector.
Before joining the Fund in early 2018, he was the Treasury Capital Markets Lead and Principal Portfolio Officer at the International Finance Corporation, part of the World Bank Group, where he focused on local capital markets development and emerging markets investments.
President Lario received a PhD in Financial Economics from the Complutense University of Madrid after completing a Master of Research in Economics at the London Business School and a Master of Finance from Princeton University.
