Deepa Bharathi
Ms Deepa Bharathi is Chief Technical Advisor for Safe & Fair: Realizing women migrant worker’s rights and opportunities in the ASEAN region project of ILO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. She joined ILO in November 2016, in Bangladesh and has been working closely with ILO consitutients and social dialogue partners, other UN Agencies in implementing the activities of ILO projects.
Prior to joining ILO, Ms Bharathi was the Regional Programme Manager in UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, based in Bangkok. She has been managing regional programmes, such as the CEDAW Southeast Asia Programme. From 2010 - 2016, she has worked with regional human rights bodies in the ASEAN Commission on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), the ASEAN Committee for Women (ACW), and she managed the ASEAN Regional Human Rights Mechanisms Project in UN Women Regional office for Asia and the Pacific. She provided technical and management support to UN Women Afghanistan Country Office and UN Women Bangladesh Office.
In a career spanning 21 years, Ms Bharathi has worked on policy formulation, programme management, grassroots level organizing, advocacy, lobbying and campaigning related to gender equality, women’s rights, and worker’s rights in Asia.
A national of India, Ms. Bharathi holds a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Mathematical Statistics from Delhi University, India and a Human Rights Law Certificate from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.
