Nancy Raphael
Nancy Raphael brings energy, creativity, and commitment to her consulting and coaching practices. These qualities complement and amplify her skills in leadership, negotiation, change management, career development, facilitation and conflict resolution acquired as a senior international human resources (HR) executive. At the organizational level Nancy has designed several change management and career development initiatives and conduced numerous team-building and strategic visioning exercises designed to enhanced organizational performance. At the individual level Nancy works with managers to develop and refine their leadership skills, deal effectively with transitions, and tackle difficult performance, as well as providing career counselling including preparations of CV’s and interviewing techniques.
All of her work builds on her exceptional people skills, honed by her experience interacting with culturally diverse leaders, individuals and teams in a wide range of professional environments. Clients and colleagues describe her as action focused, passionate, caring and insightful, with a strong focus on action. She believes fully in the power of individuals to effect change. She guides teams and individuals to realize their goals by helping them to expand their perspectives, gain insights into behaviors, and build on their strengths.
Experience
Nancy has over 30 years of human resources experience in the international not-for-profit sector in human resources management. She currently works as a change management consultant, senior adviser, facilitator and executive coach. Her most recent assignments include work for UNICEF’s Division of Communication and UNICEF’s Private Sector Division designing interventions to improve staff morale. She also worked with UNICEF’s Division of Information Technology helping them through restructuring and change, including serving as a senior advisor on interview panels for senior level posts. She has also worked in a similar capacity with UNFPA. Her career record includes appointments as Director of Human Resources for the United Nations Joint Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Geneva; as Regional Chief of Human Resources for UNICEF for Europe and Central Asia and as Chief, Staff Relations for UNICEF in the Division of Human Resources at New York. Throughout her career Nancy has interviewed hundreds of staff for posts within the UN system, specializing in Competency Based Interview techniques.
Credentials
Nancy holds a certification in executive coaching from the Columbia University Business School and Teachers College, as well as an M.S. in Human Resources from the New School University, specializing in Organizational Development and a B.A. from SUNY New Paltz. She is also a certified investigator for the United Nations Secretariat in cases of prohibited Certified Investigator for the United Nations Secretariat in cases of prohibited conduct (harassment, sexual harassment and abuse of authority). She is a qualified administrator of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator Personality Preference Test and the Belbin Team Role Profiles Instrument.
