Dr. Nhan Tran
Dr. Nhan Tran is a global health leader with extensive experience in injury prevention, public health research, and health systems strengthening. He leads the Safety and Mobility Unit within the Department for the Social Determinants of Health at the World Health Organization (WHO), where he oversees international efforts to reduce unintentional injuries. His work focuses on major public health challenges, including road safety, drowning, falls, and burns, and on supporting countries in developing policies and interventions that protect vulnerable populations.
Before assuming this role, Dr. Tran served as Manager of the World Health Organization Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research, where he advanced evidence generation and capacity development for health systems in low‑ and middle‑income countries. Earlier in his career, he co‑founded the International Injury Research Unit at Johns Hopkins University and worked as a science advisor and programme manager at the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
Dr. Tran holds a doctoral degree in Health Systems Research and a graduate degree in International Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. Born in Vietnam and raised in the United States, he brings a multicultural perspective to global health challenges and has dedicated his career to advancing safer, more resilient communities worldwide.
