This course equips participants with the knowledge to comprehend the significance of Peacekeeping-Intelligence in improving operational effectiveness, meeting international standards and promoting a safe and secure environment in complex peacekeeping-missions.
In the ever-evolving landscape of global peacekeeping, the importance of effective intelligence cannot be overstated. In response, the United Nations has focused on professionalizing Peacekeeping-Intelligence through policy framework development, specialized training, and improved recruitment strategies. “The Peacekeeping-Intelligence Fundamentals Part-1: Understanding Peacekeeping-Intelligence” course introduces participants to the foundational elements of Peacekeeping-Intelligence (PKI), a critical aspect of modern United Nations peacekeeping operations aimed at informing decision-making regarding the safety and security of personnel and the protection of civilians and enhancing situational awareness.
It further delves into the principles, practices, and policies that shape PKI, from its role in a peacekeeping context to the mechanisms of peacekeeping-intelligence gathering, analysis, and dissemination. Participants will explore the reasons why PKI exists, the seven principles of PKI, understand the interconnected steps of the PKI cycle, learn about the key guidance documents that govern PKI activities, and look at the distinction between information and peacekeeping-intelligence.
The “Peacekeeping-Intelligence Fundamentals Part-1: Understanding Peacekeeping-Intelligence’ course " is divided in four lessons and encompasses interactive knowledge-check and game sessions. This approach enables participants to consolidate their learning through reflective practices that combine the acquisition of knowledge with the pleasure of taking part in interactive discussions with peers through forums and games.
This course is designed for uniformed and civilian personnel engaged in UN peacekeeping-missions, providing tailored content to meet their specific needs. Additionally, participants from outside the UN system would greatly benefit from this training in preparation for their deployment to a UN peacekeeping-mission.
The learning path is offered free of charge to eligible participants.
