“Welcome to the UN – A UN System induction course” is an e-learning orientation course for new UN staff members. The course is available, in various languages, both on-line (through the Staff College’s Web site) and as a standalone DVD-ROM. This course is part of the UNSSC initiatives aimed at fostering greater coherence in staff orientation processes across the UN System.
The course supports new UN colleagues in familiarizing themselves with the objectives, work and structure of the UN System and is meant to complement agency-specific orientation initiatives by addressing common UN issues (such as the UN system structure, code of conduct, reform, etc.) in a coherent manner. The course has been designed in a way that enables learners to gain control over their own development, encouraging self-discovery to accommodate different interests. Learners may test their own knowledge of the UN System through various interactive quizzes and apply for a certificate of completion. Certificates are obtained through a randomized knowledge test. The course can be customized to deliver, through a single platform, both core UN System content and agency-specific induction information and learning content. UN organizations interested in the course may purchase a limited number of licenses (by purchasing standalone versions) or acquire a universal license for their staff by subscribing to the on-line version of the course. * Minimum requirements: The course requires the usage of Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or better and the Adobe Flash 8 Plugin. Adobe Acrobat Reader and a multimedia player compatible with WMV files may also be required to access some of the additional content.
