The UN Learning Community

What is the UN Learning Community?

The UN Learning Community is the main professional network in the field of learning, training and staff development in the UN system. It connects staff across the UN system and UN-affiliated international organizations whose primary responsibility is managing learning, training and staff development activities. This network behaves as a strong community of practice where members support each other through knowledge sharing and various collaboration activities.

Community members interact primarily through e-mail, but are supported by the strong collaboration features of an on-line platform. The community’s site is a key instrument to maintain the institutional memory of the UN system with regard to managing learning, training and staff development.

In addition to fostering on-line collaboration, the Staff College provides Chiefs of learning, training and staff development in the community with an opportunity to share, network and collaborate further, face-to-face, through the annual “Learning Managers Forum (LMF)”. The forum enables colleagues with corporate-level responsibilities in managing learning, training and staff development initiatives to benefit from the knowledge and wisdom of senior leaders in the UN system and world-renown figures in the profession.

Membership

Membership in the community is restricted to eligible staff members. Access to the community is granted by invitation only and subject to approval by the UNSSC or a community moderator.

Staff interested in joining the UN Learning Community are encouraged to liase with the head of learning, training and staff development within their respective organization to verify their eligibility.
