The Learning and Training Services (LTS) programme contributes to greater organizational effectiveness as a result of increased staff development and learning competencies, impacting on both UNSSC effectiveness and that of the United Nations agencies. LTS partners with relevant UN Agencies to develop tools and opportunities aimed at further building capacity of staff in key thematic areas.
It is within this context that:
| Common Needs for a Common Career |
LTS promotes coherence in staff orientation processes across the UN system. A key tool in this regard is the on-line course “Welcome to the UN: A UN system induction course”. It addresses common induction needs of new UN staff, focusing on the UN as a whole and the various interagency linkages. Other courses, focusing on the specific orientation needs of young professionals at the beginning of their UN careers, are also organized. |
| Closer Ties, Increased Coherence |
Since 1997, LTS nurtures the continued development of the learning function through the organization of the Learning Managers’ Forum, the key annual event in the UN system enabling learning chiefs to address common challenges, share best practices and foster interagency collaboration. LTS also manages the UN Learning Community, a strong Community of Practice (CoP), which has become a key reference point for discussion, requests and collaboration on training and learning management for UN and UN-affiliated organizations. |
| Increased Effectiveness through Harmonization |
LTS supports staff development activities of strategic importance, such as:
|
| Modern Tools for a Stronger UN |
LTS promotes the use of modern technology to strengthen learning and knowledge management capabilities; i.e. through the use of an on-line communities’ platform to foster greater collaboration in the areas of learning, training and staff development. |
